Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s lawyer, on Monday hit the morning news circuit to discuss Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016—and significantly moved the goal posts for potential criminal wrongdoing on the part of the president.
Speaking with CNN, Giuliani insisted that collusion is not a crime—and that Donald Trump “didn’t hack,” which Giuliani said is the real crime.
Giuliani: “I don’t even know if that’s a crime, colluding about Russians. You start analyzing the crime — the hacking is the crime. The president didn’t hack” pic.twitter.com/GTnUxXBeTL

Speaking with Fox News, Giuliani also muddled the Trump team’s defense of the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, during which members of the Trump team met with Russians offering dirt on Hillary Clinton.
As CNBC’s Christina Wilkie notes, Giuliani did not claim Trump had no knowledge of the meeting, but instead told Fox News Trump did not personally attend the meeting.
NEW: Giuliani just moved the goal posts in 2 big ways on Fox & CNN :
1. He’s no longer claiming Trump didn’t collude with Russia. He’s claiming “collusion is not a crime.”
2. He’s not saying Trump did not know abt 2016 Russia mtg in advance. He’s saying Trump did not ATTEND it.

Giuliani also said each of these things on BOTH Fox News and CNN — suggesting they weren’t one-offs and are now talking points https://t.co/kott8kCZsJ
